Welcome to ArtsEd Digest, the new and improved face of the AEP listserv. The ArtsEd Digest is an online publication that allows for the easy access to vital and timely information about arts education from our partners and from the field. It is published twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Items for inclusion in the upcoming listserv must be submitted by close of business on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month. For example, items for the Digest to be published on Tuesday, January 26 should be submitted by close of business Friday, January 22.

NEA Jazz Masters Award Ceremony and Concert to Be Heard Worldwide

Washington, D.C. - This year’s NEA Jazz Masters award ceremony and concert will have unprecedented reach--the program will be heard on terrestrial and satellite radio as well as online. WBGO Jazz 88.3FM based in Newark, New Jersey and Sirius/XM Satellite Radio’s Real Jazz Channel 70 will broadcast the event live with WBGO’s Gary Walker and Sirius/XM’s Mark Ruffin as co-hosts. Professional Development Opportunity: Art21 Educators

Art21 Educators is an intensive, year-long professional development initiative designed to cultivate and support K-12 art educators interested in bringing contemporary art, artists, and themes into their classrooms. Join a national group of educators to explore, discuss, design, and document curriculum around the art of our time. The initiative includes a 6-day institute in New York City conducted by Art21 staff, visiting artists, and guest presenters, followed  by monthly online forums to share best practices and ongoing development.

Job Opportunity: Research and Evaluation Officer, Institute of Museum and Library Services

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. The Institute works at the national level and in coordination with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture, and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development.

Congress requires that IMLS analyze trends, evaluate programs and share best practices with the goal of improving library and museum practice and informing policy makers.   IMLS is taking an increasingly active role in sponsoring national cultural research projects, developing our own research reports in the form of policy research brief series and in-depth cultural program evaluations, fostering greater cooperation among Federal cultural agencies for research, and developing new data resources through national survey efforts.

Job Opportunity: Deputy Director, Out of Site: Center for Arts Education

The Out of Site Youth Arts Center seeks a dynamic, articulate and creative Deputy Director with a deep commitment to arts education and urban youth. The Director must have exceptional communication skills and demonstrated success in leading communities of educators, and managing day-to-day programs. This position reports to the Executive Director, and works collaboratively with all staff and faculty.

The Deputy Director, a new position for Out of Site, will have a particularly important role in the on-going success of our programs as well as our development as an organization. All serious candidates should confidently embrace a two-year commitment to the role. Coming up to speed quickly, the Deputy Director will need to resourcefully navigate through ambiguity, provide operational balance to the strategic work of the Executive Director and create success for a transitioning organization. The Executive Director and the Deputy Director will work as a management team. Additionally, the Deputy Director will be accountable for the management of all programs, including day-to-day management of staff.
