The 35 partner organizations that comprise AEP’s Advisory Committee help guide AEP’s staff and Governing Council in the main areas of AEP’s work: gathering and analyzing research and policy information, fostering dialogue about what works in education, and supporting advocacy for improved education policy and practice. Advisory Committee members are selected to serve terms of 1-3 years. Members serve on the following working groups within the Committee:
National Forum Working Group: The National Forum Working Group is responsible for developing the National Forum themes; collaborating with AEP Staff and local planning committees to manage content and logistics for each National Forum—including meeting with potential sponsors; and serving on the review panels for Small Group Session proposals and the Young Artist Program. Members serve in this Working Group for a full year, and are involved in both the Spring and Fall National Forums for that year.
Research and Policy Working Group: The Research and Policy Working Group provides broad stewardship of AEP’s flagship research and policy clearinghouse, which includes ArtsEdSearch and the State Policy Database. This group reviews current research and information in the database to identify broad and emerging themes, identifies gaps in existing research and makes recommendations for new research, and develops strategies for dissemination and communication of information in the clearinghouse both within and beyond the Partnership
Partnership Working Group: This Working Group advises and collaborates with AEP staff on developing new and key strategic partnerships and activating the networks within current AEP Partner Organizations. This Working Group also collaborates to develop strategies for strengthening the network of AEP Partners through the identification and communication of shared goals within and across sectors.
Communications Working Group: The Communications Working Group develops and implements an annual strategic communications plan to elevate AEP’s brand, mission and strategic initiatives. In this role, members assist in shaping customizable key messages for the field, cultivating regional and national media partners for story placements and media sponsorship, and devise tactics to grow AEP’s online, social media presence.
